“Lanzarote is a living painting, shaped by volcanoes, the wind, and the sea, revealed by the changing light of the sun.”

Lanzarote is one of the seven Canary Islands, shaped by fire and wind in the Atlantic Ocean. I chose it for its raw volcanic landscapes, its glowing earth, and the strange beauty I had seen only in photographs.

From the very first evening, the island revealed its character. Near Volcán El Cuervo, the sky opened with golden light. Clouds gathered above the mountains, and the sun pierced through them like a spotlight. The land was black and red, and everything felt silent and alive.

One place I dreamed of seeing was the Cueva de Órzola, a sea cave at the northern tip of the island. We arrived at sunrise, just as the tide pulled back. The beach was empty. I stepped into the frame for a self-portrait, the first light catching the wet stones. It felt far from the world.

On the west coast, Famara beach stretched like a mirror. At sunset, the sky turned pink and the reflections danced over the sand. In the nearby dunes, white sand curled around green bushes and volcanic peaks. The tones shifted from ivory to rose to pale gold. It looked like silk moved by the wind.

One evening, I visited La Geria, where vines grow in dark craters protected by stone circles. The shapes were soft and surreal. I photographed the scene at blue hour, where everything turned quiet. Only the green of the vine stood out like a whisper.

Though I came for the volcanoes, the ocean kept calling me. Near Los Hervideros, I stood above a sea cave, watching the waves crash against the rocks. I slowed the shutter to capture the movement. It felt like painting with water.

One of the last evenings brought a moment I won’t forget, sunset at La Cresta del Dragón Colorao. Huge waves, golden light, and the sound of the wind. The land felt wild and sacred.

Lanzarote is full of details. Soft patterns drawn by the tide, lines etched by the wind, stones polished by centuries of salt. From sunrise to blue hour, the island speaks in textures and light. It is a place that invites you to see, to feel, and to create.
